My hope is that you are atop the mountain of life right now and experiencing amazing things! But if you are walking through the valley instead, know that it is temporary. I’ve had to learn that lesson by growing through it myself.
I have discovered that in order to reach your destiny, you will be put to the test. You will experience obstacles and setbacks that are truly there to see if you’ve got what it takes to keep moving forward. Although these challenges and heartaches have at times felt like hard hit smack downs and stopped me in my tracks, I have realized that God is molding me into who I am supposed to become. I know that I have not yet reached my destiny, because I am still growing emotionally, spiritually, and intellectually.
Oprah Winfrey says, “It’s not happening to you; it’s happening for you.” Pastor Joel Osteen reminds me that there will be “beauty for ashes”. He says, “The depth of your pain is an indication of the height of your future.” Those words of wisdom have helped me find a way to turn heartbreak around. In the past two years, I have learned to see God’s gifts in the midst of grief and found hope in the wake of diagnosis.
I believe that life not only has mountain peaks and valleys of flat land in between, but it has foothills. Those foothills are glimmers of hope and sheer goodness to encourage us to keep moving forward. They are windows into our future. Those foothills mold and shape us to get us prepared for what lies ahead. If we are to reach our destiny, I now see that time in the valley is required and time on the foothills will give us strength.
From now on, I will welcome those foothills in my life. And, although I look forward to reaching mountain peaks once again, I will recognize the treasures that foothills bring. My hope is that you, too, find beauty and strength in the foothills and always remember that whatever happens in your life is happening for you.
